Why Vitamin C is important for skin

Skin Care and Vitamin C:

You want to start your skin care routine or enhance existing routine?  Please ensure Vitamin C is part of your routine. And in this blog we will discuss about topical Vitamin C that you directly apply on your skin instead of diet or supplements.

What is Vitamin C?

It is also known as ascorbic acid and L-ascorbic acid. This is a vitamin which is not produced by your body. Only way to get this is through diet or topical treatments.

Why Vitamin C is so important?

Vitamin C is an essential nutrient in tissue repair and it is a great anti-oxidant. You can consume Vitamin C as supplement or food for your internal health. But when we talk about Vitamin C benefits for Skin, it has to be topical application. There are several benefits of this magical serum, I will list here few:

1. Vitamin C promotes collagen production which has potential to diminish fine lines and maintaining firm skin

2. Vitamin C is great antioxidant, for topical use that fights free radicals that we are exposed to from UV rays.

3. Vitamin C also helps tp lighten hyperpigmentation and brown spots in skin. As we age these issues become more prominent. With regular use of Vitamin C skin will become more radiant.

How to use Vitamin C:

Vitamin C is considered selfish ingredient in skin care, that means it does not work well with other ingredients in skin care. Best way to apply vitamin C is to after cleansing your face, pat dry and apply Vitamin C serum as the first step in your skin care routine. And than let it sit for 5 mins or so, it needs time to settle in your skin. Once it is settled you can apply other skin care products like Hyaluronic acid etc. but avoid retinol or niacinamides. It is recommended to keep these other serums to your night skin care routine and Vitamin C to your morning skin care regime.

Please be aware that by sheer nature Vitamin C is prone to oxidizing. So keep your product in dark, cool place and when the color of serum changes quite drastically it is sign to replace it.

**Disclaimer: I am not a dermatologist but I have developed great interest in Skin care and have done tons of research of my own, please use these recommendation with grain of salt.
